Rear Derailleurs
Rear derailleurs guide the chain between rear sprockets. When replacing one, consider shifter, cassette range and frame attachment together. This collection may include spares alongside complete derailleurs for different systems; distinguish full units from cages or service parts.

Match the rear derailleur to the system
Identify exact shifter and derailleur models. Cassette range must meet the derailleur's sprocket limits and total capacity. Cage length helps selection but does not explain every aspect of compatibility. Assess mechanical and electronic connection requirements separately; hanger condition affects operation too. Pay particular attention to service-part codes: a cage alone does not have the same contents as a complete derailleur.
- Check gear count and system family together.
- Record cassette range and chainring arrangement.
- Verify frame mounting and package contents.
Does a long cage suit every cassette?
No. Follow capacity and sprocket limits. A long cage does not mean unlimited range.
Are shifting problems always caused by the derailleur?
Cables, housing, hanger alignment or chain wear may contribute. Assess system condition before ordering to identify appropriate maintenance.
