Folding Bikes

A guide to choosing a folding bike

Choosing a folding bike centres on balancing riding and carrying. Wheel size, equipment and folding details can differ between Dahon Lunden, BoardWalk, Vigor and MU examples. Small wheels alone guarantee neither low weight nor a fit in every boot.

Measure the doorways and storage spaces you will use to make comparison easier. If combining rides with public transport, also check the operator's bike carriage rules.

• Compare folded length, width and height with your storage space, including room occupied by accessories.
• Assess saddle and handlebar adjustment ranges against rider measurements, and load limits against your use.
• Read the hinge and locking mechanism instructions and consider whether the folding method feels practical for you.

Are small wheels only for short rides?

They do not determine distance alone. Geometry, gear range, riding position and rider expectations all matter.

Will it fit in every car boot when folded?

No. Compare folded dimensions with the boot opening and usable interior space.
