Identify front-shift mounting correctly
Record crank and left-shifter models. Ring arrangement, maximum ring and chainline must match. Frame tube diameter matters for clamps; frame mount design for direct attachment. Compare top or bottom cable entry with frame routing. Equal speed counts across families do not guarantee all front components work together. Photographing routing and recording the current code helps compare pull and mounting options.

Can a front derailleur be chosen only by speeds?
No. Crank dimensions, chainline, control and frame attachment must also match.
Does a clamp adapter solve every interface?
Use adapters only for stated dimensions and purposes. Do not assume they generally solve frame-mount or system incompatibility.
