In mechanical brakes, housing supports the inner wire's route. In hydraulic brakes, the hose is part of the fluid connection. These products are not alternatives to each other. Do not treat model names such as Shimano BH59 and BH90 as equivalent: check lever, caliper, hose ends and fittings together. 'Cable' in a title does not establish that a product is a mechanical inner wire; read the photos and model code in relation to the system type.
- Read the code on the existing hose or housing.
- Compare straight or angled ends and package contents.
- Determine required length, including internal frame routing.
Is a product labelled one metre a complete set?
Not always. Hose or housing sold by the metre may require separate fittings; check contents.
Is length the only consideration when replacing a hydraulic hose?
No. Fitting compatibility and the brake's service procedure matter too. Follow model-specific instructions for cutting, connecting and bleeding.
