A chain compatible with the drivetrain
Identify cassette, crank and chain models. Choose width and construction for the product family. Equal speed counts do not make every chain suitable for every system. Link count describes supplied length; determine final length during installation using the manufacturer method. Connecting link or pin must match the chain. Keep the chain code when buying spare connectors: link count and connector compatibility are different information.
- Read system family and speed information.
- Distinguish supplied links from required length.
- Check whether a connector is included.
Does a connecting link replace a complete chain?
No. It joins the ends of a suitable chain. Read function and quantity carefully.
Can a new chain be used with an old cassette?
Assess wear. Chain, cassette and crank work together; a new chain alone may not resolve all wear problems.
