Assess cranks and chainrings together
Identify crank model, bottom bracket spindle standard and frame interface. Single, double or triple rings affect front derailleur and control needs. Choose crank length with riding position; tooth counts help determine ratios. Check manufacturer pairing with chain and rear gears. Front derailleur position and chainline also require assessment: attaching the crank to the frame alone does not establish complete system compatibility.
- Compare arm length and chainring teeth.
- Verify square taper, Octalink or other interfaces.
- Check whether bottom bracket and rings are included.
Does buying a crankset include a bottom bracket?
Not always. Contents must be specified separately; choose the bearing assembly for crank and frame.
Can a bolt set be used on any crankset?
Dimensions, threads and attachment are model-specific. Match bolts with the crank's service code; similar appearance is insufficient.
