A guide to choosing bicycle kickstands
Choosing a stand requires more than wheel range. The frame needs a suitable mount or approved clamping method. Centre- and rear-mounted stands do not attach at the same location. For electric or loaded bikes, also check the stand's stated capacity.
Correct height and ground contact matter. A kickstand should not be treated as guaranteeing against tipping when gradients or bike loads change.
- Compare frame mounting location, hole pattern or clamp dimensions with stand instructions.
- Assess length adjustment alongside actual wheel and tyre size and check the stated wheel range.
- Read load limits and fitting torque and verify clearance from pedals, tyres and cables.
Does wheel size guarantee fit?
No. Frame mount, fitting method and length must all suit; do not rely on wheel labels alone.
Can every frame accept a kickstand?
An approved mount is required. Without one, do not improvise clamping or drilling.
